Rowan Coupland is a singer, harpist and guitarist. English-born, but Berlin-based, he sings soaring and intricate modern folksongs filtered through noise, avant-garde poetry, and the sounds of snow falling through urban smog. After establishing himself in Brighton’s indie-folk scene, and becoming a member of the influential Willkommen collective, he left the UK, eventually settling in Berlin, where he began to write songs of urban decay and regeneration, abandoned hospitals filled with Asbestos Ghosts and foxes, and the city night time.
Following the release of the two Berlin albums, Asbestos Ghosts (cassette) and Circuit (risograph book/CD), he has since released 5 Harp Pieces, as well as collaborations with Berlin’s Ben Osborn, Leipzig’s Malo Moray, and appearances on the tape compilation The Sunday Matinee. A new collaborative tape, recorded with violinist Eirini Fountedaki, is released on October 6th.
Rowan Coupland ist Sänger, Harfenist und Gitarrist. Der aus England stammende Wahl-Berliner singt moderne, schwebende Folksongs – gefiltert durch Lärm, Avantgarde-Lyrik und Geräusche von Schneefall im Stadtsmog.

Carolina Lee’s slow and dusky Dream Pop vocalizes stories and reveries over a subtle musical arrangement. The songs draw the audience down into the deep end – to be carried by a sound that corresponds with the past and is still completely at ease in a melancholy and playful present. The song lyrics often deal with themes like farewell, sadness, alienation, and longing. A tension is created that is sometimes reminiscent of the dark timbre of Karen Dalton or the dreamy simplicity of Mazzy Star. In 2021 the band from Berlin released their debut `Haunted Houses´.
Haunted Houses is not a homage to other musicians. It is a dreamy, independent, and sometimes stubborn debut album. (Tagesspiegel)
Carolina Lees langsamer und manchmal düsterer Dream Pop vokalisiert Geschichten und Tagträumereien über einem subtilen musikalischen Arrangement. Die Songlyrics verhandeln oft Themen wie Abschied, Trauer, Entfremdung und Sehnsucht. Sie ziehen das Publikum hinein in eine traumgleiche Tiefe – dort kann es sich tragen lassen von einem Sound, der mit der Vergangenheit korrespondiert und doch ganz bei sich in der Gegenwart ist, wie die Erinnerung selbst. Es wird eine Spannung erzeugt, die manchmal an das dunkle Timbre von Karen Dalton oder die verträumte Einfachheit von Mazzy Star erinnert. Wer aufmerksam durch Berlin stolpert hat es mitbekommen, die Stadt ist ein Magnet für junge, verrückte, talentierte und interessante Musiker. Mit etwas Glück sieht man auf der Warschauer Brücke oder in einem Kneipenhinterzimmer an einem Abend mehr Talent als das ganze Jahr im Fernsehen.
Wir wollen diesen Musikern eine Bühne geben.
